“Ageing is not a liability, but a force for good.” Chief Sng will share on ActiveSG — our national movement on sports and physical activity, specifically on its Active Ageing programmes, its vision, purpose and strategies, which is to enable our older adults to enhance their confidence, connection and contribution through sports, and give them a sense of meaning and purpose through sport volunteerism. Advocate for this notion of “Seniors to lead seniors” to sustain this active ageing movement!
Mr Sng Hock Lin
As Chief of ActiveSG, Mr Sng Hock Lin oversees the national movement for sports and physical activities. One of the key thrusts is the Active Ageing Masterplan that emphasises collaborations and use of technology to bring Active Ageing to the masses. He is currently a PhD candidate in Gerontology at the Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS), and had served as Chairman of the SUSS Gerontology Alumni.
Before joining Sport Singapore, Mr Sng was a Colonel in the Singapore Armed Forces and held concurrent appointments as Commander Army Logistics Training Institute (ALTI) and Commander of Division Support Command (DISCOM). Under his leadership, ALTI collaborated with Institutes of Higher Learning, ITEs and Polytechnics to build an integrated educational eco-system for Singapore Armed Forces’ servicemen.
Just before retirement from the SAF in 2019, Mr Sng was awarded the Public Sector Transformation Award for transforming ALTI to a future-ready institute with modern adult learning methodologies, curriculum and training technology.
He obtained his Master of Gerontology from SUSS, where he graduated top of the cohort and was awarded the Alice Lim Memorial Fund Gold Award. Mr Sng also holds master's degrees in Training and Development, Adult Learning from Griffith University, and Transportation Management System, Supply Chain Management from the National University of Singapore (NUS).
