This training programme focuses on creating transformational impact on SME leaders and their businesses. It starts with a diagnostic test on the leaders as they need to understand themselves while building business growth based on their profiled strengths. The leaders will then need to transform the business in order to maximise market interactions and profit. This programme build on the themes of Resilience, Entrepreneurship and Nurture as SMEs through resilient leadership and entrepreneurial qualities, nurture their staff for the next level of growth.
SME leaders, bosses, and senior managers
This course focuses on how to capitalise on the most essential asset a leader has: his or her own leadership talents and strengths. Using mindset theory as the base to understand the mindset of a leader and how to make the most of his/her strengths for individual and organisational success. Competencies can be taught; talent is innate, and the greater the investment in developing its full potential, the further an organisation's leaders can accelerate positive business outcomes. Participants will learn how to leverage their strengths to create optimal work environment in their company culture, developing their effectiveness as a leader and set the foundation for other modules expanding their impact on their team, market, business and legacy.
2. Understanding Market: Product Innovation and Marketing
Businesses need to understand their customers, including customer profiling based on purchasing motivations and habits, analysing customer touch points, and using customer data to build relationships and rapport with customers. This course focuses on how to understand the market better and maximise the returns from the market. Businesses also need to understand the role of business processes and how to leverage on technology for market maximisation. This course is designed to unleash businesses' potential to develop innovative products and services which are attractive, practical and marketable. Product innovation will be explored as well as target customer identification and how the best way to engage the target customers.
3. Human Capital: Shaping a Culture of Engagement
In this course, the instructor will engage participants to discuss human resources challenges commonly faced by organisations. The functions discussed include human resource planning, job analysis, recruitment and selection, career planning and development, performance management, compensation and benefits, safety and health issues, and industrial relations and employment laws. It will try to provide a better understanding on the concept, definition, process, methods and various elements related to these human resource activities.
4. How to Manage Your Operations?
This course provides the participants with an understanding of the role and importance of operations within an organisation as well as the concept of the supply chain and the interplay between supply chain partners. The relation between demand and supply and the significance of inventory in affecting operation's efficiency will be explored. At the end of the course, participants will play a simulation game to understand the interrelation between different business functions and why operations management is important.
5. Managing Cash Flow
In this course, the participants will be taught on cash flow management, and the objectives and importance of a healthy cash management. The participants will have the opportunity to construct a cash budget for a small enterprise and discuss its issues and potential problems in constructing such a cash budget. Participants will be required to provide and discuss practical solutions to some potential problems as highlighted by the cash budgeting process.
6. Wrap Up Session: Where do We Go from Here?
This final session will be a wrap up of the topics learned. Participants will have the opportunity to reflect – "What's Next? Where do we go from here?", to bring back the knowledge and apply at their businesses or organisations.

Dr Emily Ortega
Dr Emily Ortega is the Head of Programme of the Psychology Programme in the School of Humanities and Behavioural Sciences, Singapore University of Social Sciences. A practicing academic, Emily is a highly experienced Sport Psychologist who has worked with some of Singapore's best athletes, helping them to achieve their sporting aspirations. Currently the sport psychologist for the national shooters, Emily helps our shooters to consistently perform at their very best in high level competitions such as the SEA Games, Asian Games, Commonwealth Games, Olympics, and World Cups. A biofeedback specialist, Emily is an applied practitioner who uses biofeedback to monitor and measure physiological responses to stress.
A member of the Singapore Psychological Society, Emily currently serves on the management committee of the Asian-South Pacific Association of Sport Psychology (ASPASP). Emily's main area of research is in psychophysiology, focusing on heart rate variability and its links with performance and well-being. Emily has published her research in international journals and has contributed book chapters in Secrets of Asian Sport Psychology, The International Handbook of Positive Psychology, and Women and Sport in Asia.
Mr Toh HongGiep
Mr Toh is a seasoned professional with more than 20 yrs of international experience in technology management, change management, e-commerce/digital initiatives, data analytics and outsourcing. He is familiar with working with diverse stakeholder groups and senior management to drive and realize strategic initiatives.
Dr Jiang Zhiying
Dr Jiang Zhiying is a lecturer from Marketing Department. Before joining SUSS, she worked as an Assistant Professor in School of Economics, Erasmus University Rotterdam. Her area of expertise includes Marketing Analytics, Marketing Research and Mobile Economics, Product Design. She tends to use quantitative methods to identify the underlying trends and opportunities under various micro or macro environment. In addition, Dr Jiang has consulting experience with multinational firms such as Philips and IMS health during her years in the Netherlands. She was also an expert appointed by European Union Commission under H20 framework on issues such as optimal marketing expenditure in pharmaceutical industry.
Dr Dianna Chang
Dr Dianna Chang is a Senior Lecturer in Marketing at the Business School, SUSS. She has extensive industry experiences in marketing and strategy from early careers in healthcare marketing and advertising and market experiences from living and working in many countries. Dianna obtained a bachelor’s degree in science from Beijing Normal University, an MBA from HKUST and a PhD in Marketing from Melbourne Business School. At SUSS, she teaches courses in digital marketing, customer experiences management and strategy.
Mr Henry Koh
Henry Koh, an Organization Development Consultant, Executive Coach, Facilitator, Specialist Adult Educator, SkillsFuture Mentor and Lecturer. He had served as Chief Operating Officer, Principal Consultant and Resident Coach with RHT Human Capital Institute and Innospaces Consulting Private Limited, Director for Capability Development & Special Project, e-Service Private Limited, a subsidiary company of Singapore Technology Electronics, InfoSystem Private Limited and Singapore Armed Forces. He has a good reputation with the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF); Letter of Commendation and Certificate of Appreciation for Exemplary Professional and excellent contributions, Certificate of Outstanding Conduct for his service to the SAF from Chief of Army and Certificate of Appreciation from President of Singapore for his years of loyalty and valued service to the SAF.
He has extensive and rich working experiences in both private and public sectors. He has held positions that demanded strategic leadership, human resources management and operational capabilities. He have facilitated leadership and team programs, and coached many executives and teams at different management levels for private and public organizations – RHT Group of Companies [GoC] & KhattarWong LLPs, Nomura Asset Management, Timberland Asia Pacific, CHASEN Logistics Holdings, ST Electronics Information System, Neo Group Limited, Home Academy, People's Association, Institute of Adult Learning (IAL), National University Hospital and Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) Centre of Leadership Development, Medical Training Institute and Institute of Military Learning.
Dr Tay Huay Ling
Dr Tay Huay Ling is a Senior Lecturer and Head of the International Trade Management Minor Programme in the School of Business, Singapore University of Social Sciences. She teaches courses in Operations Management, Logistics and Supply Chain Management. Her research interests include lean six sigma process improvements, value chain analysis, services operations, healthcare process improvements as well as humanitarian logistics. She has worked on projects involving streamlining of health care operations and process improvements in hospitals as well as the community and social services sector in Singapore. She served in the 2018 Monash Forum on Healthcare Improvement and Innovation in South Asia/ South-East Asia the keynote speaker and workshop facilitator.
She has published in International Journals such as the International Journal of Productivity and Performance Management, Operations Management Research Journal, Healthcare Management Review and has presented in numerous international conferences.
She holds her Ph.D. degree in Business and Economics (Operations Management) from the University of Melbourne, Australia. She also holds a dual Master of Science - a Master of Science (Industrial Engineering) from Georgia Institute of Technology and a Master of Science (Logistics and Supply Chain Management) from National University of Singapore and a bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering from the National University of Singapore.
Mr Peter Chua Bee Teck
Mr Chua Bee Teck, Peter is the Managing Director of Ignite Training and Consultancy LLP. He has more than 20 years of corporate experience with multinational conglomerates. Peter specialises in Supply Management and Supply Chain Operations.
Peter is a cross-industry practitioner, having worked in leading companies across various industries in a global capacity – Oil & Gas/Natural Resource, Chemical Manufacturing, Pharmaceutical-Nutritionals, Medical-Eyewear/Ophthalmic. He is well acquainted in manufacturing and distributor/service retail business models operating in the e-commerce and traditional brick-and-mortar setup. In addition, he is conversant in commodities supply management. Peter has unique experience in having managed all nine classes of dangerous goods (class-1 explosives to class-9 miscellaneous dangerous goods).
He is an adjunct lecturer with various Institutes of Higher Learning and is currently working on a training curriculum development certification. In Addition, Peter serves with the Training Advisory Committee of the Singapore Logistics Association.
Peter holds a master's in business administration from the University of Melbourne, majoring in Finance. He is also trained in International Commercial Arbitration and is a Six-sigma green belt.
Associate Professor Tan Chong Hui
Associate Professor Tan Chong Hui is Head of the Finance Programme in the School of Business at SUSS, where he has been a faculty member since 2013. He graduated from UCLA with a PhD in mathematics.
He has rich experience in teaching computational and quantitative finance as well as applied computing technology to undergraduate and post-graduate students. He has also conducted executive training programmes in the finance industry. His research interest lies in the areas of fintech and semantics modelling.
Associate Professor Ding Ding
Associate Professor Ding Ding is the Vice Dean in the School of Business at the Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS). She graduated from Nanyang Technological University with a Ph.D. in economics and is also a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) for more than 10 years. She has rich experience in teaching economics and finance courses to undergraduate, post-graduate, and MBA students, and she has also conducted executive training programs for SME owners and senior management. She has published numerous research articles and books in the filed of finance. Her research interests lie in the areas of financial technology and digital inclusion, economy of China, and international capital markets.
Dr Ameen Talib
Dr Ameen Talib is currently Head of Applied Projects at SUSS. At the age of 20 he graduated from Ain Shams University (Cairo) with a 4year B.Com (Accounting) degree. He obtained his MSc in Accounting and Finance from London School of Economics and his PhD from University of Warwick.
Ameen is a Fellow Chartered Accountant; trained and worked in KPMG England and later Ernst & Young in Singapore. He left the audit practice as audit manager in 1991 to join National University of Singapore (NUS) Business School as lecturer.
He left NUS in 2003 to focus on his F&B business (Café Le Caire) and his consulting under Ameen Talib & Associates. Ameen had been in business for over 16 years. Ameen had also been strategic planning director and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of a manufacturing company in Thailand. Ameen has conducted trainings and/or consulting in various countries.
Ameen has published extensively in Academic journals including International Journal of Accounting, International Journal of Business Studies, Accounting Research Journal, Education Economics, Higher Education Review, Higher Education Quarterly and Public Management Review. He has also written a book on Managerial Economics and on Motivation Models.
